ASNM badminton club had a very busy day on Thursday as we hosted the boys county badminton championships. Over 150 boys representing six different schools took part in the competition.
Firstly, our under 19 teams had a very successful day at all levels. Our division one team won their competition and have qualified for the Munster championship which will be held in UL in the new year. We also had winning teams in division two and three and a runner up in division three where we had twin brothers competing against one another in a fiercely contested final.
Our under 16 division one team played exceptionally well today in a very tough group where they faced inter county players and did brilliantly to finish in second place. Our division two team made the final which will be played at a later date. In division three, we also had a team going home with silverware where they also finished in second place.
Finally, we had three under 14 teams competing today where the division 2 team finished in second place. We are particularly impressed with our youngest boys and their display today as they picked up a racket for the first time just eight weeks ago.
We had many more teams competing today who represented themselves and the school exceptionally well. Well done to all players and trainers today. We are looking forward to next year already!
Let's hope that we will have another successful week again next week as our girls travel to Blackwater Community School, Lismore for their county championships on Tuesday.
