Transition Year
Transition Year (TY) is one year programme in Ardscoil na Mara. It proves a bridge to enable our students to make the transition from Junior Cycle to Senior Cycle. Places on the programme are allocated on the basis of an application/interview process.
TY encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. TY in Ardscoil na Mara endeavours to foster academic achievement which helps students prepare well for the Leaving Certificate programme. Ardscoil na Mara will devise its own timetabled programme, tailored to the needs of students. The school takes a holistic approach with great emphasis on both local community involvement and the great ourdoors!
Core academic subjects Irish, English, Maths continue along with subject sampling in all the Sciences, IT, practical subjects and the various modules of PE to name but some of what is a very programme.
Religious Studies form an integral part of the course and will encompass a wide range of community work in eluding Meals on Wheels, John Paul II awards for parish work and local fundraising.
Career Guidance and specific student direction is very important to the programme and will include three weeks of work experience. The year offers students the opportunity to taste and reflect on career possibilities enabling them to make informed choices for the future.
